Horda (Film in development) Dir. Marko Šipka

Towards the end of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, just before the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement, a group of boys, childhood friends from the neighborhood, are left to fend for themselves on the streets. With a lack of parental authority, consumed by the daily struggle for survival, the boys form a gang with a clear hierarchy and rules. "HORDA" takes us on an immersive journey through the chaos of these turbulent times, where survival becomes paramount and innocence is only a distant memory. Amidst this tumultuous setting, we follow the story of Lazar, a newcomer to the group who has recently arrived in a refugee column. As he attempts to find his place within the gang, Lazar is confronted with numerous challenges, pushing him to confront the toughest moments of his young life. Unexpectedly, love blooms as he falls for Mirela, who is preparing to leave for Sweden with her family.

HORDA" presents an intimate portrait of a group of boys during the war - young enough not to fully grasp the peril surrounding them, yet old enough to make choices that will put them in danger. Their days are filled with idleness, theft, fights, and games, and their goals uncertain beyond the pursuit of money and personal pleasures. The film juxtaposes two worlds on the verge of collision: a harsh, dark reality that disrupts the carefree microcosm they had constructed. The shining bullets, gunfire, and shouts from balconies symbolize not only the war's end but also the demise of their childhood, once happy and fulfilling, as the last generation transitions from socialism to capitalism."HORDA" captures the essence of a generation caught between the remnants of innocence and the somber complexities of adulthood, forever marked by the ironies of freedom amidst the ravages of war.
